President's Report
 Hello Rotarians one and all.

I've just left London where I caught up with Richard II and Marita at their Canary Wharf flat. They have 3 months a year back there ostensibly so Richard can watch his football team Brentford. He'll be back in July and will pick up the newsletter task again from Sue who's covering for him (admirably!).

While in London I happened upon the King and Queen as they returned from opening parliament. Quite a stroke of luck to pop out of Westminster tube station five minutes before the parade was due to start!

Thanks to all who worked as marshals at the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge last weekend. We receive a substantial donation for turning up and marshaling is definitely easier than actually participating in the event! Andy can surely attest to that. ðŸ™‚

I'll be home soon and look forward to seeing you at Wednesday's meeting and catching up on all things Rotary.

Kind regards,

Katrina
Tough Guy & Gal Challenge 9 May:

A huge thank you to everyone who turned out on a somewhat windy and rainy day at the recent Tough Guy, Tough Gal challenge. This was my third time at the event (as a volunteer), and once again it was really enjoyable.

Andy competed along with approximately 500 other competitors his result was a very respectable one..

We also enjoyed seeing a new family event take place, where groups of families race around a 3 kilometre course.

Will definitely be there next year ..and Andy may compete again..I don't think it could be any muddier that it was last Saturday !
Fun in the water ??
Finally past the finish line.
Rotary Club of Hutt City Bylaws

Notice of Special General Meeting to Adopt Bylaws.
Now that the club is reregistered under the new Incorporated Societies Act, we need to adopt bylaws with more details of how we operate.  This is notice that a special general meeting will be held during our 17 June club meeting to do this.  We will need a quorum of 21 active members.

Here is a link to the proposed bylaws, which you should read: RCHC 2026 Bylaws

(NB: You can also download a copy by using this link:

Note particularly that the board has decided that an audit or review of the annual accounts should be optional, at the board’s discretion:  Bylaw 8, Section 5.  Also, the strict Rotary requirement to attend meetings can be softened, and that is done in Bylaw 11.

I want to thank Richard Nabarro for putting most of this together.  It was a big job.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Rotary Meeting 20th May

The speaker at our meeting next week is Shirley Anne Thornbury from Te Aho O Te Kura Pounamu, (the Correspondence School), which is actually New Zealand's biggest state school. Shirley will explain the role and history of Te Kura to our members and explain what they do.

The  school has been operating for 104 years, initially as a way to serve geographically isolated learners but now providing early childhood, primary and secondary education to the many students for whom face to face learning is not an option.

There will be a short slide presentation with some general facts about Te Kura and its particular connection with the Hutt region.
Cans for a Cause 2026

All Rotary districts in New Zealand will be once again  collecting Cans for a Cause during the first week of June in support of local community food banks. Rotary's  collective target is to gather one million cans nationwide.

Each club is encouraged to appoint a project coordinator to oversee planning, promotion, and collection logistics and Richard Gibbens will be coordinating this year.

This coordinated national effort provides an opportunity to amplify our impact, strengthen community partnerships, and showcase Rotary’s commitment to addressing food insecurity across Aotearoa.

The photo on the right is Linton, promoting the cause at Summerset last year.

A Reminder of Club Meeting Duties: Closing Thought
Our closing thought is for you to round off a warm and interesting occasion where everybody has shared
the moment, enjoyed themselves, and head off with a memorable thought to lift their day.

• See if you can choose something linked to the speaker’s topic.

• You will know the theme. Keep it brief.
