Changeover June 25th 2025
What a wonderful changeover we had last night, with Katrina Harding becoming Hutt City Rotary's President  for the 2025-2026 term. We look forward to Katrina's first President's report in our next Bulletin, but for now, have look at some of our wonderful travel themed Rotarians.

BUNNINGS SAUSAGE SIZZLE
Fun in the sun at the Bunnings BBQ sausage sizzle fundraiser in Petone. A beautiful day for it and around 450 sausages sold. Great fun for our teams who were rostered on during the day too.
Special thanks to Richard and Gaylene for the preparation and organising work.

Today's Date 27th June
1936:
Māori and Pākehā from around the country converged on Manukorihi Pā in Waitara, Taranaki, to attend the unveiling of a memorial to ‘one of New Zealand’s greatest men’, Sir Māui Pōmare, of Ngāti Mutunga and Ngāti Toa.

The first Māori medical graduate, Pōmare had been a health reformer and Cabinet minister.

During the ceremony, the governor-general, Lord Galway, unveiled an imposing white Sicilian marble statue of Pōmare, and a beautiful newly carved wharenui (meeting house).

Also in attendance were nearly 40 Members of Parliament, including Prime Minister Michael Joseph Savage and two of his predecessors, J.G. Coates and G.W. Forbes. All three men spoke at the hui (gathering). Other important guests included the Māori King, Korokī Te Rata Mahuta, who travelled with a large contingent from Waikato and King Country to help open the new meeting house.

1971:
The Polynesian Panther Party was established in Auckland by a group of young Pacific Islanders. The party aimed to address issues faced by Pacific communities in New Zealand.

1975:
Mark Williams' hit song, "Yesterday was just the beginning of my life," topped the New Zealand music charts for three weeks, showcasing a blend of soul and pop with a glam rock/disco aesthetic according to NZ History.
Looking back at our 18th June meeting
Many happy returns to President Cameron who celebrated not only his birthday but also his company Packaging Products Ltd turning 50(!) and it was his last meeting as President for his Rotary year.

Seb Grodd from Life Flight Trust spoke about the service they offer, rescuing patients and transferring them to or between hospitals - a very necessary service, of which a number of members have had to use.

Vidette shared highlights of her 37 years at NZ Police, working behind the scenes rather than frontline.
Another great meeting, made better with cake!! 🙂

A very exciting and busy meeting with a number of visitors.
Looking forward to our 2nd July meeting

A sustainable future Through Organic Waste Recycling

At EarthSOS, we believe in the power of innovation and environmental stewardship. Led by Will Hansen, they are a small team of passionate individuals dedicated to finding sustainable solutions to the pressing issue of climate change. Their journey began with a vision to remove all organic waste from landfill – revolutionising organic waste recycling in the process. Six years on, their scalable and modular system, powered by specialised enzymes, can convert end-of-life organics into a valuable soil conditioner within just four hours.
