Rotary calls on us to serve our community and Linton Adams is truly a champion in that respect. As a member of Rotary Hutt City, he has led a 30 year project to redevelop and extend what has become a major community asset in the Hutt Valley: the Hutt River Trail. At the same time, Linton immediately acknowledges the leadership of Robin Maud, a former club member, and the support of eight Rotary clubs across the valley.
From the project's beginnings in 1993, when it was envisaged as a way of marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of Rotary Hutt City, the redeveloped trail now spans 54 kilometres of walking and cycling pathways along both sides of the river. It is extensively used by walkers, runners and cyclists and is envisaged in time to connect with the Remutaka Rail Trail and the Great Harbour Way, potentially rivalling the Otago Rail Trail as a national asset.
Linton's efforts, not just on the river trail project, but also in supporting other club projects and Rotary International's Polio Plus programme, have recently featured in Newsroom, an independent news site:
