After an absence of several years, Rotary returned to Wainuiomata on 13 November. Rotary Hutt City brought together local and central government politicians, business and professional people and Rotarians for a breakfast at the Wainuiomata marae. Following a welcome and blessing, the large audience of Rotarians and locals heard from Bryce Wilkinson, a leading economist and a Senior Fellow at the New Zealand Initiative.

Bryce spoke on the likely direction of the economy, wage subsidies, consumer confidence, the economic implications of the rise in government debt and the impact of low interest rates on the housing market.
