Fabian will speak on the topic of ‘Clear Ears’ with some challenging information about dealing with hearing loss. Hearing affects or is affected by memory, balance, sleep and tinnitus. Apparently, our ears are not designed to live as long as we do! We lose the higher tones of subtlety, clarity, of and with background noise lighter sounds are lost.
Fabian will explain just how the structure of our ears works, and that hearing loss can contribute to dementia. This is because on the brain takes from memory to shore up hearing. And because hearing loss affects the way we socialise, social isolation is another risk factor. In a study of cognitive decline in those with and without hearing aids it was shown that there is 50% less cognitive decline in those who wear hearing aids consistently. Come along to hear more!

Colin Keating is an international lawyer and former New Zealand diplomat. He was the New Zealand Ambassador to the UN Security Council in 1993-94 and is recognised as a leading global authority on the Security Council.

He served as the Legal Adviser of the New Zealand Foreign Ministry and later as the CEO and Secretary for Justice.

Colin also served as a Special Envoy for Prime Minister John Key, first lobbying for New Zealand to be elected to the Security Council in 2014 and then advising during New Zealand’s term on the Council.

Working the private sector in New Zealand, Colin served as a partner in a legal practice.

Chris is a dynamic presenter who will keep your eyes and ears connected throughout his entire presentation. This is a great opportunity to bring a friend or a business client along to one of our meetings and display how proud we are to be the Rotarians of Hutt City.
